to prep and broil | |
1 | Cut off all the peel and pith from the grapefruit. Cut between the membranes of each segment and remove the fruit. Arrange the segments in a gratin dish. |
2 | Move the oven rack 4 inches below the broiler. Preheat the broiler. |

3 | Sprinkle the sugar over the grapefruit and dot with butter. Broil for 8-10 minutes or until the edges of the fruit are lightly browned. |
4 | If adding gin, sprinkle before serving. |

With the drippings from the dish, combine them with some additional gin and warm them in a small saucepan. Pour it out as a warm cocktail that has a similar flavor profile to that of the dessert.
