pears au gratin

ingredients
all
4 whole bartlett or comice pears
very ripe, peeled, cored, halved lengthwise, then cut lengthwise into 1/4-inch slices
3 oz French bread
day-old leftovers, could also use 1.75 cups of panko breadcrumbs instead
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup pecans
1 tsp cinnamon
ground
sour cream or whipped cream
optional

We sometimes make this dessert when the pears have become too ripe to juice. Nothing goes to waste in our kitchen. :)

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

In a gratin dish, arrange the pears so that they slightly overlap each other.

Convert the bread into crumbs in a magic bullet or food processor.

Add the butter, sugar, pecans, and cinnamon. Process again to combine until mealy. Sprinkle this mixture over the pears.

Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping has browned. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes prior to serving.

Serve with optional sour cream.
