1 | Measure out and combine the bourbon, orange juice, and water. (I often double this recipe and measure everything out in a medium measuring glass with ounces listed for units.) Reserve. |
2 | Add the sugar to a small saucepan. Warm the sugar over medium heat. Monitor the sugar as it goes from solid, to clear bubbly liquid, to brown in a matter of minutes. |
3 | When the caramelized sugar turns into a deep, mahogany brown color, pour in the bourbon mixture. The caramel will harden initially, but the heat will help dissolve it into the liquid. Whisk the liquid until the caramel is fully dissolved. |
4 | Pour the thermo sour into double walled glasses and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Sip slowly and carefully at first as it will be super hot. |
